"To the left" (Caris Reid, 2013)
I have a collage in Kindling Quarterly’s Third Issue hitting stands this week. Really great issue. Photos of Matthew Day Jackson by Noel Camardo, short story by Julian Tepper, and awesome interviews by David Michael Perez.

Earlier this summer I was asked to write some text on Texas, as part of Doug Aitken’s Station to Station project.
“I left Texas long before I was physically able to leave- one of those haughty departures only an 18 year old could make, eyes towards the horizon, promising to never return. But when I moved, I left family behind, and the expanse of sky that reminds you how petty your ambitions are. How petty anyones ambitions are. New York has a way of quieting that sky. All those self important city lights. Until you ache to see the stars again. You forget what you said when you were 18, you rent a car and you grab your city boyfriend, a camera and a hat, and head back to the place you left behind.”
